Saint Peter is Still Speaking
The power of Saint Peter is still at work through the Successors of Saint Peter, the Popes. Through the Pope, Saint Peter is still speaking and the power of the Holy Spirit is still falling on those who listen. In this program, recent audiences, homilies, messages and addresses of the Pope, the living successor of Saint Peter, are broadcast.
Then Peter proceeded to speak and said, 'In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him. You know the word [that] he sent to the Israelites as he proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all, what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and (in) Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised (on) the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.' While Peter was still speaking these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon on all who were listening to the word. (Acts 10:34-44)
The power of Saint Peter's office was bestowed on him by Christ: "You are Peter and on this rock I build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18) The power of Saint Peter's office calls down the Holy Spirit on all the Jews gathered in Jerusalem on Pentecost and even calls down the Holy Spirit on the Gentiles in the encounter with Cornelius and his household. The power of Saint Peter is still at work through the Successors of Saint Peter, the Popes. In this program, recent audiences, homilies, messages and addresses of the Pope, the living successor of Saint Peter, are broadcast. Most often this is the actual voice of the Pope. When the Pope is not speaking in English, voice-over of the English translation is broadcast. In some cases, such as with the Pope’s messages, when there is no recording of the Pope’s voice to broadcast, the teaching may simply be read by a bishop or priest without the Pope’s voice.
